Recently, Prof. Kabo-bah, Co-Chair of the GEO (Group on Earth Observations) Program Board at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana, visited the UNESCO International Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry (hereinafter referred to as ICGG). The two sides exchanged on the preparation for the GEO initiative “Intelligent Chemical Earth”. Dr. Zhang Bimin, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration (IGGE), Chinese Academy of Geosciences (CAGS) and ICGG, met with Prof. Kabo-bah and presided over the meeting. Both parties conducted in-depth consultations and discussed cooperation opportunities centering on key proposal requirements, cooperation models and development pathways.
During the discussion, Dr. Zhang Bimin elaborated on ICGG’s achievements in geochemical observation, development of intelligent data platforms and international scientific research cooperation. He reported on the proposal status, core content and current difficulties of the “Intelligent Chemical Earth” initiative, and outlined the overall plan and implementation framework for ICGG’s participation in this initiative.
Drawing on his extensive experience in energy resources, earth observation and international big science program collaboration, Prof. Kabo-bah commended ICGG’s preparatory work for the GEO proposal. Meanwhile, he put forward targeted, professional and valuable suggestions on key issues including the specific modalities for ICGG to engage in the GEO initiative, regular cooperation frameworks, and medium-to-long-term cooperation roadmaps. His inputs provided critical guidance for ICGG to refine the proposal, align closely with GEO’s international cooperation architecture and expand channels for global scientific collaboration.
This dedicated exchange zeroed in on the core tasks of preparing the proposal for the GEO initiative “Intelligent Chemical Earth”. It effectively clarified the project implementation roadmap and international cooperation pathways, further consolidating the foundation for ICGG’s engagement in GEO programs. Going forward, ICGG will fully incorporate the valuable advice from this meeting, polish and finalize the proposal documents, refine the cooperation implementation plans, and actively deepen scientific research cooperation and talent training with the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana. It will make every effort to advance the delivery of the GEO initiative and continuously elevate ICGG’s international standing in earth observation and Chemical Earth research.
