ICGG Secretary Office


The UNESCO International Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry (ICGG) received a visit by a delegation of International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) on 16 Nov., 2017. The delegation consisted of Prof. Jennifer Mckinley from the Queen’s University of Belfast and Chairman of IAMG, Prof. Eric Grunsky, Secretary Director of IAMG, Prof. David Rooney, Director of Sustainable Energy Research of the Queen’s University of Belfast, Chief Geologist Mark Cooper from Geological Survey of Northern Ireland and Prof. Conor Graham from Queen’s University of Belfast.


The delegation was was accompanied by Dr. Yan Guangsheng, Chief Geologist of the China Geological Survey (CGS), Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Geosciences (CAGS) and Vice Chairman of the IAMG and Mr. Shu Siqi, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and International, CGS.


The Director of the ICGG, Dr. Peng Xuanming,  and the Deputy director of ICGG Dr. Hao Guojie and the Executive Deputy Director of the ICGG, Dr. Wang Xueqiu, were the hosts to the delegation and academic exchanges were made between the parties.


This was the second visit of the Belfast delegation since the first one on 18 July, 2017. The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences of the Queen’s University of Belfast Express interest in collaboration with the ICGG on International Cooperation Scientific Projects and the two sides have agreed to sign a MOU on projects of common interest including the project “Chemical Earth”,   “Belt and Road” Geochemical Mapping Projects,  Geochemical Data Analysis,  Use of Geochemical Data for Health and the Academic and Technical Exchanges of PhD and Postdoctoral researchers


Dr. Yan Guansheng expressed  that he would  support and actively promote the ICGG functioning. He also hoped that the ICGG could strengthen its capacity building and to continue to increase the level of international cooperation.


Following the meeting presentations were made by Dr. Wang Xueqiu titled “Introduction to Geochemical Data from National and Global Geochemical Projects”, Prof. Jennifer Mckinley titled “Geochemical data at the Interface between Health and Geoscience” and Prof. Eric Grunsky titled “, Multivariate Analysis of the Soil Geochemistry of the Conterminous “United States: Mapping Surface Lithologies, Terrerstrial Ecosystems, Thermoclimatic Belts and Ombrotypes”. Dr. Mark Cooper briefly introduced the “Tellus Project” of Northern Ireland Geological Survey. Young scientists from IGGE and ICGG took an active part in the academic exchange.
