Participants of the "2019 Training Course on Geochemical Mapping and Environmental Geochemistry Survey Technologies for Developing Countries" Visited IGGE and ICGG
On August 26th -September 1st , 2019, 18 participants from 7 countries, including Argentina, Cambodia, Morocco, Sudan, Jordan, Tanzania and Ethiopia, of the 2019 Training Course on Geochemical Mapping and Environmental Geochemistry Survey Technologies for Developing Countries visited the Institute of Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration (IGGE), CAGS, and the UNESCO International Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry (ICGG).
During the visit, experts from IGGE and ICGG gave several lectures on Geochemical Mapping Theories and Methodologies, Environmental Geochemical Survey Theories and Methods, Application of Geochemical Mapping in Mineral Resources Exploration, Geochemical Sample Analysis Methods & Technologies and its Application in Geochemical Mapping. A field trip was also arranged for demonstration on sampling techniques. Participants also visited the ICGG Exhibition Room, the Geochemical Sample Analysis Laboratory, and the Certified Reference Material Development and Quality Monitoring & Control Centre.
To promote cooperation and exchanges in the field of multi-scale geochemical mapping and international cooperation, a discussion session was arranged between ICGG experts and the workshop participants. The ICGG expert introduced the status of global scale geochemical baselines mapping and the cooperation approaches. The participants briefly introduced the progress and status of multi-scale geochemical mapping in their respective countries. The participants expressed their will to deepen cooperation with China in the field of geochemical mapping and also hoped to get more assistance with their technical capacity building from the China side, such as the high-resolution laboratory techniques, as well as utilization of the past geochemical survey data from various sources. The participants also showed their full support for the ICGG international scientific cooperation program, “Chemical Earth”, and would like to contribute more to its implementation in their countries.
The training is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and hosted by the Development Research Center of the China Geological Survey. IGGE and ICGG undertook the training on geochemical mapping and environmental geochemical survey.
