On October 11th, 2019, a delegation headed by the Mr. SouSSourou Dembele, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of the Republic of Mali, visited the UNESCO International Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry (ICGG). Dr. Hao Guojie, Deputy Director of IGGE, Dr. Wang Xueqiu, Executive Director of ICGG entertained the delegation.


The Mali delegation visited the Exhibition Room of ICGG. Dr. Wang Xueqiu, introduced the establishment process and main functions of ICGG and the international scientific cooperation program “Chemical Earth”, which received positive evaluation from the delegation. The Mali side expressed their willingness to join the “Chemical Earth” and carry out cooperation with ICGG to fully play the significant role of geochemistry in resource exploration and environmental survey, and to serve the economic development of Mali.

The delegation also visited the laboratory of IGGE. Mr. Dja djé Amadou Keita of the delegation, who was in charge of the geological survey of Mali hoped that ICGG could help the Mali Geoanalytical laboratory in its capacity building, which would lay the foundation for Mali’s future geochemical survey work.


During the visit, the Mali side came across the ongoing 2019 International Geochemical Mapping Workshop held by ICGG. Mr. Soussourou Dembele highly appraised ICGG in contributing to the capacity building of developing countries. He proposed that the two sides should keep in touch and Mali would like to send staff to participate in the workshop in 2020 to improve their techniques in geochemical survey.
