Recently, the 10th Anniversary of China-Laos Geochemical Mapping Cooperation and the Achievements Handover Ceremony was successfully held in Vientiane, Laos. The event was co-hosted by the Department of Geology and Minerals of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Laos and the UNESCO International Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry (hereinafter referred to as ICGG).
Throughout ten years of unremitting efforts, geochemists from China and Laos have achieved a series of significant achievements. The global-scale geochemical mapping of Laos has been completed, and the geochemical baselines network of Laos has been established to provide baselines data for the sustainable development of resources and environment in Laos. The national scale 1:1,000,000 geochemical mapping of the whole area of Laos has been completed. The 71-element geochemical atlas of the whole area of Laos has been obtained for the first time. The 1:200,000 regional scale geochemical map of Houaphan province in northern Laos has been completed, which provided the basic map for the survey of mineral resources in Houaphan province. Mutual visits and exchanges of scientific and technological personnel, indoor and field geochemical mapping training have been carried out, and an excellent geochemical mapping team has been cultivated for Laos.
Ten years of geochemical mapping cooperation is a concrete practice of China and Laos geochemists on implementing the global development initiative and actively promote the building of a community of common destiny for mankind. It also witnesses the progress of science and friendship between the two sides. Both sides firmly believe that with the continuous implementation of the "Chemical Earth" scientific program, the two sides will keep working together to deepen research and cooperation in the field of geochemistry, such as resource exploration, environment protection, green land and climate change, so as to contribute to the harmonious coexistence of man and nature and the sustainable development of global resources and environment.
The meeting was held both on-site and online. Leaders and researchers from the Department of Geology and Minerals, the Department of Organization and Personnel of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Institute of Energy and Minerals attended the meeting on site. Leaders and scientists of ICGG joined the meeting online. During the meeting, China handed over the geochemical mapping achievements to Laos. The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Laos awarded honorary certificates to the Chinese staff involved in the China-Laos geochemical mapping project.
