On 11 September 2026, a four- member delegation from  the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia, headed by H.E. Ung Eang, Secretary-of-State, and H.E. Ung Dipola, Director- General of the General Department of Mineral Resources, paid a courtesy visit to the UNESCO International Research Centre on Global- Scale Geochemistry (ICGG) during the 28th China Mining Conference. Mr. Xiao Du, Director of ICGG and the Institute of Geophysics and Geochemistry (IGGE), and Dr. Zhang Bimin, Deputy Director of IGGE, met with the delegation.
Following a tour of the exhibition hall at the IGGE Tianjin Base, the two sides held a meeting. ICGG presented the key outcomes of the Chemical Earth International Big Science Program, and the foundation for China-Cambodia cooperation on geochemical mapping. It proposed plans for future collaboration. The two sides exchanged on the scope, objectives, timeline and outcome-  sharing mechanism for the proposed China- Cambodia multi- purpose geochemical mapping project for mineral resources and environments. The cooperation envisages multi-objective geochemical mapping across Cambodia’s Mekong River Basin and Tonlé Sap Plain to support the country’s mineral exploration, environmental assessment and fundamental scientific research. Both sides expressed willingness to deepen cooperation on geochemical mapping and expedite the delivery of relevant agreements.

This visit marks a major step forward in practical China-Cambodia geoscience cooperation. As an important initiative under the Chairman Statement of the High-level Dialogue on Global Development, the joint multi-  objective geochemical mapping project for mineral and environments will further expand application areas for geochemical mapping outcomes and add new substance to bilateral cooperation in mineral exploration and environmental assessment.
