Saudi Geological Survey Delegation visited IGGE and ICGG

On December 23, 2019, a Saudi Geological Survey delegation, consisting of 5 officials, headed by Mr. Wade Ahmed, Director of the Department of Geological and Mineral Resources of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), companied by Dr. Zhu Lixin, Director of the Division of Science Technology and Foreign Affairs of the China Geological Survey (CGS), and Mr. Wang Weidong from the China Geology and Mining Company, visited the Institute of Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration (IGGE), CGS. Dr. Peng Xuanming, Director of IGGE, met with the delegation.

Dr. Peng Xuanming, director of IGGE and ICGG, briefly introduced IGGE, including its research scope, technical strength and main achievements. He expressed his willingness to cooperate with SGS in areas of mutual interest. Dr. Yao Wensheng, Secretary-General of ICGG, gave an introduction on the theories, methods and application of exploration geochemistry in China, how China is playing the leading role in the field of exploration geochemistry across the world. Dr. Yao Wensheng also introduced the technologies of geochemical survey through river sediments, specifically the methodologies and technologies in sampling, lab analysis, quality control, mapping, and their application in prospecting. The SGS delegation expressed their appreciation of China's achievements in exploration geochemistry. Afterwards, the delegation visited the ICGG exhibition room, the laboratory of IGGE, and the reference material research centre of IGGE.

Mr. Wade Ahmed briefly introduced the main structure of the SGS and the geochemical exploration projects in the Saudi Arabian shields and expressed his willingness to cooperate with China in areas of mutual interest.

SGS aims to gain a full knowledge of the scientific research capacity and talent pool of IGGE and ICGG through this visit, so as to lay a solid foundation for next-step cooperation.
